PROGRAM OUTCOME AND COURSE OUTCOME
Geography Program me Outcome: The threeyear Under Graduate course in Geography Major equips the students withknowledge in different areas of Geography – geomorphology, oceanography,climatology , world regional geography, soil and biology, economic geography,human geography, development planning, cartography, statistics.
Program me Specific Outcome: EconomicGeography deals with the distribution and production of resource, mobilization,utilization and exploitation of resources, sustainable development and futuretrend, environmental problems and optimum utilization of resources, aforestation, agro forestation, economic activity and human resource.
Human Geography involvesunderstanding the origin, migration, growth, race, population problem, mode ofliving, man resource and man-land ratio.
Regional Development Planning requires thestudents to compare national planning techniques with that of developedcountries like Japan and America and the advanced techniques and technologiesthey use in the use or resources, in planning environment, the pollutioncontrol measures they use.
Study of Regional India includes aknowledge of the resources and planning in indigenous resources, locationsignificance of India, avenues for tourism development and border trades. Italso studies areas of conflict and cooperation, trade and commerce of Indiawith other SAARC countries.
The course equips students with Cartographicand Quantitative Methods of study and use of Statistical techniques, principlesof application of Geographical Information System, GPS and Remote Sensing.
Population and Settlement Geography, Socialand Political Geography studies environmental influences on population, areother areas of study. The course especially includes a study of the regionalgeography of North East India with special focus on Assam. Course Outcome: Thestudents gain knowledge in different areas of geography. Students can go forhigher studies in Geography, Tourism, etc. The field trips and outdoor classesorganized by the department gives the students the opportunity to apply theirclassroom knowledge in real life. The students are taken to different areas inand around Tzepo giving first hand knowledge and experience of the specificareas they are taken to encompassing topics like geography, eco-tourism, mannerof tourist flow, species identification, socio-economic study of people ofdifferent communities.
The students under the guidance of theteachers of the department, have organized awareness campaigns on solid wasteand plastic management and have also done a GIS mapping of Tzepo town. Thestudents are given training in the use of Geographical Information System(GIS), in photography, etc. Many of the students are actively involved with theWWF and other Nature Groups.
